Swanage is situation in a prime location for medical students commuting to the nearby hospitals for elective placements. The map above gives you an indication of the distance to each hospital from Swanage. You can read more about the hospitals below.

Alan offers free pickup and drop off, if available, from OR Tambo Airport. If not available we recommend using Uber taxi’s as they are the cheapest and safest option.

Most students benefit from hiring a car for the duration of their stay, in order to get about. Some recommended car rental companies include: Tempest, Budget and Avisl.

A deposit is required to secure your stay in Swanage as there is a high demand for elective student accommodation. The deposit will be refunded if your elective is cancelled 6 months prior to arrival. No refund for will be given after that date when a booking is cancelled, as other students could have benefitted and would have been turned away.

We are 25 minutes  drive away from Baragwanath Hospital because we are in the second safest suburb of Johannesburg. Closer to the hospital is also closer to higher crime areas.and there is less entertainment and restaurants due to the demographics of the area..

Swanage is 15 minutes away from Charlotte Maxeke Hospital.

It is safe to go for runs around the neighbourhood on your own.

Locally known as ‘Bara, it’ll only take you 25mins to reach the largest trauma center in the world. Set on the edge of Soweto, students can take either the M1, N3, or N12 motorways to work – a route well trodden by Alan.

More commonly known as Jo’burg general, this hospital is conveniently situated on the beautiful University campus of Witwatersrand. Offering plentiful amenities this is undoubtedly a popular destination for elective students, just 15mins from Swanage.
